NYC Votes Youth Ambassadors

The Ambassador Program runs on a hybrid (remote/in-office) schedule from May - November each year. During this time, Ambassadors learn about elections and local government. Our holistic, non-partisan, issues-based curriculum teaches Ambassadors how local government impacts every area of our day-to-day lives and provides pathways for youth to get involved. Ambassadors are trained to become civic leaders and gain real-world work experience within a government agency.

The curriculum includes:

• Exposure to local history and guest speakers at other city agencies and non-profit organizations.
• Collaboration with staff across the Campaign Finance Board on interviews with local news outlets to promote elections.
• Production of social media content for NYC Votes social media channels.
• Final research projects for our annual Voter Analysis Report.

In the Summer months, Ambassadors come into the Campaign Finance Board office for weekly field trips. Each week we dive into a different issue-area within local government. Ambassadors learn from experts and take trips across the city for hands-on learning opportunities. Some of our field trip locations have included: the Museum of the City of New York, Museum at Eldridge Street, Randall’s Island Urban Farm, and even a walking tour of Red Hook Brooklyn to learn about Urban Planning.

A core aspect of the Ambassador program is hosting Get Out the Vote events. Since 2020, Ambassadors have pre-registered and registered hundreds of New Yorkers to vote. Ambassadors support the voter education and registration efforts of the CFB through planning and hosting their own events within their schools and communities. In the past, Ambassadors have hosted virtual and in-person voter education sessions for their schools and places of worship. They have also supported voter registration efforts at community events with other agencies and elected officials. Ambassadors have even registered voters at New York City Comic Con!
